Pacific Channel and Ernst Young recently held a joint seminar on successful business and investment models for realizing returns from New Zealand life sciences innovation.

Guest speakers included Dr Allan R. Goldberg and Mr Robert J. Beckman from Pacific Channel's US affiliate - The Channel Group LLC. Dr Goldberg discussed the importance of resources being focussed on opportunities with international potential; and having credible plans to finance US market entry such as for clinical or business development.Mr Beckman discussed how to partner with larger companies to secure both finance and skilled resources.

A consistent theme arising from the seminar was effective management of resources.   A key issue amongst participants seemed to be enabling sufficient concentration of resources on the creation of IP. Solutions proposed included shared management across a portfolio of technologies and the provision of business development support in markets using world class specialists on a contract basis.
